40 Piano Pieces by Rudy Espinoza
Several of these piano pieces began as improvisations I played for patients and their families at
Houston Methodist Hospital, where I had the privilege of serving in the role of a part-time
pianist. By the titles of these songs, one can get a sense of what the melodies are about. The
piece “Early Journey” came as a result of a significant visit with a young patient facing a
serious illness. Other pieces express feelings of uncertainty during the time of illness, as well as
hope. My piece “Good Treatment” came after a visit with a patient a patient who experienced
healing and recovery. Other pieces attempt to describe the positive impact that the medical
staff, nurses and physicians had on the patients as they shared it with me. This is reflected the
title of my pieces ‘Contentment’ and ‘Renewal’. My piece “Letum Non Omnia Finit” expresses
the sadness of loss of life, and its eventual acceptance. I hope that these piano pieces do a
small contribution to the field of healing piano music, and hospital music.

40 Piezas para Piano por Rudy Espinoza
Varias de estas piezas para piano se iniciaron como improvisaciones que toqué en el piano del
lobby del Hospital Houston Methodist para los pacientes y sus familiares. Por los títulos de
estas piezas uno pueden notar de qué se tratan. La pieza “Un Viaje Temprano” resultó después
de una visita con una paciente que experimentó una seria enfermedad siendo muy joven. Otras
piezas expresan sentimientos de incertidumbre así como de esperanzas durante el tiempo de
enfermedad. Mi pieza, “Buen Tratamiento” nació de una visita de alguien que había
experimentado sanación y curación. Otras piezas expresan el impacto positivo que el personal
médico, doctoras y enfermeros tuvieron en los pacientes a como me lo compartieron. Esto se
refleja en mis piezas ‘Contentamiento’ y ‘Renuevo’. Mi pieza “Letum Non Omnia Finit” expresa
la tristeza por el duelo a la vez que expresa una eventual aceptación. Espero que estas piezas
de piano contribuyan al campo de piano música de sanación.
